On the Vine – new issue
Autumn brings our journey through Lent to Easter
On the Vine is a quarterly publication edited by Pamela Briggs.
Pamela writes: “Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday and was the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast, and pancakes are the perfect way of using up these ingredients. Shrove, derived from shrive, refers to the confession of sins as a preparation for Lent, a usual practice in Europe in the Middle Ages.”
Printed copies are available at the church. The new issue can be downloaded here.
